FILM SYNOPSIS

Octavio Salazar lived in Rockford, Illinois with his wife, step-children and child, with another baby on the way at the time of his deportation. As an illegal immigrant, Octavio lived in the U.S. since 1993, he was deported in 2003, and now he lives in Aguascalientes, Mexico -- barred from applying for re-entry into the U.S. until 2013. An engaging mix of the personal and the political, Deportee features interviews from both sides of the border and both sides of the issue, including a former Deputy Director of Chicago immigration enforcement, and the head of the Illinois Minutemen -- who is of Mexican decent -- to expose fundamental flaws in the United States immigration policies. Deportee is the first feature for Dan Kolen and Justin Lansing, who attended Lake Forest College while making this film.
